Today’s Topic

I’m excited to introduce this week’s guest, Kerriann Mackenzie. We recently met online, and I instantly knew that I wanted to have her on the show. Like me, Kerriann is a tree communicator. She’s made it her mission to normalize tree communication.

In this episode, we talk all about how she got started with tree communication and talking to trees. Kerriann shares what it was like to start opening up to this experience, and how she has helped others learn to talk to trees.

This is something I’ll be talking about a lot more on the podcast. It’s a topic I’ve been neglecting a bit over the last year, though you can find related podcast episodes below. My mission is all about helping people with their personal growth through connecting with Nature—both through practical experiences like outdoor adventures, and through a more spiritual connection.

About Kerriann

Kerriann Mackenzie has spent most of her life consumed by the magic of trees, and living in alignment with the pulse of nature. She’s on a mission to normalise tree communication and help others manifest magical lives through nature connection. Kerriann brings her work into the world as an artist, magical life mentor, and masterclass facilitator at the Treehouse Club. When she’s not working, you’ll find her rescuing and caring for wildlife, or spending time with her nature-loving family on the East Coast of Australia.

Holly: Hello adventurers and welcome to the Into the Woods podcast, episode 392. This is your host Holly Worton and I am back with another exciting guest.

Today I am talking to Kerriann Mackenzie about normalising tree communication.

So, this is something that I have been neglecting for the past year on the podcast and it is something that I am going to be picking up a lot more.

I have realised that despite the fact that, you know, I have gone on national television here in the UK to talk about talking to trees and plants; and despite the fact that my bestselling book is about talking to trees, it is not obvious on my website, it is not as obvious from the podcast. And I realise that I have spent the last year talking about outdoor adventures not just because that’s my thing and I love it, but also to kind of present myself as this kind of normal, grounded, person and I am going to start blending the two sides of me more into my work from now on, which is why I am splitting up my email list into people who want to hear about trees and weird stuff and people who want to hear strictly about outdoors adventures.

So if you have had an email from me lately asking you to please click on a link to segment yourself, please do so if you haven’t already. I am also cleaning out my email list, so if I don’t hear from people I won’t know what they are wanting to hear about and I am going to be cleaning up my list. So that’s where I am right now.

My thing is outdoors adventures really help me to connect with nature in a spiritual way and a very grounded, physical way. I love hiking, I love long distance walking, I love trail running and I also love talking to trees and having that spiritual connection with nature. So, this week’s guest, Karriann Mackenzie, has made it her mission to normalise tree communication and I have realised that is kind of what I have been kind of doing through the book, and through television appearances, but I haven’t really stepped into that role as, ‘this is the thing that I want to do’.

And I am now realising how important that is, it is so important to talk about this stuff, because I am a normal person having a normal life (so is Kerriann), and also, we talk to trees. So I think it is possible to have both things, I think it is possible to be kind of like an average, normal person and also have this spiritual connection with nature. I think the more we talk about this, and the more we have these conversations, the more common it will become.

I have had so many people write to me after reading my book and say: I didn’t know this a thing, but I have always felt connected to trees, and now that I have read your book I have decided to try it and I can do it too. And I think this is a really important thing for me and I am sure also for Kerriann – this is not some special connection that we have, anyone can do this if you are open to it, you can learn how to talk to trees and plants and have this communication with nature and it really opens up a much deeper level of relating to nature. So that’s why it is something that is so important to me.

So let’s talk about Kerriann: Kerriann Mackenzie has spent most of her life consumed by the magic of trees, and living in alignment with the pulse of nature. She’s on a mission to normalise tree communication and help others manifest magical lives through nature connection. Kerriann brings her work into the world as an artist, magical life mentor, and a masterclass facilitator at the Treehouse Club. When she’s not working, you’ll find her rescuing and caring for wildlife, or spending time with her nature-loving family on the East Coast of Australia.

I have got a link in the show notes to her Treehouse Club which you can find in the show notes for this episode.

What are we going to talk about today? We are going to talk about: how Kerriann got into tree communication, how she receives the messages from trees, how she knows the messages are real – this is a question I get asked for myself, many times. And finally we are owing to talk about why it is her mission to normalise tree communication.

So I hope you find this episode interesting and useful. I will be talking more about trees, more about this spiritual connection to nature, in future episodes, but in the meantime I hope you enjoy this great conversation with Kerriann. We did an hour for this episode and then I kicked off for the recording and I talked for another half-hour. We have a lot to say! So I suspect she might be coming on the show again, in the future. So without further ado let’s get into the episode.

Holly: Hello Kerriann!

Kerriann: Hi Holly! It is so exciting to hear your voice and to be with you on this recording. I know that we spoke briefly before we hit record, but I have to say it again I feel like trees all over the world right now are just really happy that this conversation is happening and I couldn’t be more honoured to be here with you talking about tree communication.

Holly: I am so excited to talk with you about this. You also said something really interesting to me before we hit record, which was that you went on a walk yesterday and the trees were commenting to you about this.

Kerriann: Yes, because I feel like they have been asking me to step into this for such a long time and I have been on such a journey of, not denial, but being afraid to step into this area and so they were really, really, really, happy that I was taking this step to put it out there – as I was walking past they were like, ‘thank you’, ‘thank you’, every tree. And I was walking past and touching everyone and I visited Jamilah, who is my tree, who I am sure I will speak about later. Like I ran, I saw her and ran to her and I gave her the biggest hug and she was so happy that I am doing this and that we are having this conversation.

Holly: Yay! So how did you first get into tree communication?

Kerriann: Okay, there are two really important times where tree communication came into my life. The first one was a little bit more causal, I was in a woman’s circle and it was my first time talking with women in the circle, and they were all talking about this book and it was by Arin Murphy-Hiscock, and the book was called The Green Witch, and I was like: oh, witchy talk, this is fascinating! And they were all talking about how there is an activity you can do where you can connect to a tree.

So I told a couple of my friends I was going to do it, and they were going to do it too, and I did it and as soon as I practiced the activity I didn’t see, I tasted the colour yellow and I know that sounds very bizarre but at that stage I wasn’t seeing images in my mind, I have Aphantasia, so I don’t see images in my mind very often. And so I tasted the colour yellow and I went back and told everyone about it, and they were all looking at me like: what? And I am like: yeah, and it was telling me a story. And they were like: what?! And it was like: didn’t that happen to everyone?

Holly: {laughing} Isn’t this how it works?

Kerriann: Isn’t this it? And I just remember thinking: this is the coolest thing ever, I am going to really practice this and I did it with a couple of other trees and it was just really, really, really, fun. I kind of just forgot about it a little bit, I wasn’t practicing it. And I was also still in that stage of [being] new to anything that was spiritual and out of what I was used to, which was really Louise Hay and Law of Attraction and that kind of stuff and this was kind of like: oh, this is totally different.

And some time passed and I was studying Eckhart Tolle’s book and I had my daughter in the car, listening to the audio book and just driving along – we live where there are trees everywhere – so driving through the forest, and I thought: I wonder what ‘I Amness’ feels like? And exactly the moment I said it, all the trees along the side of the road pulled together a golden stream of light, it entered my car, entered my body, and I felt complete detachment from my ego and oneness in a way, I cannot even fully describe it, it was so powerful and incredible and then like five seconds later, my mind is like: no you can’t accept that, what is that? What was that? Oh my Gosh you must be going crazy! I remember driving home going: what just happened to me?

And I walked inside and I am like, okay I must be hallucinating and then my inner being is like: no, you are fully experiencing, this is what you have been asking for to feel and experience all of who you are. And I went out the next day and I was just walking down the street and I could feel like my consciousness being pulled away from my body, kind of like an out of body thing, right? But not, more like someone was calling me and pulling me towards and it was a tree. And I am like, oh my goodness what is happening? And I am like: oh no, not this again! {Holly: laughing}

And I just kept on thinking: don’t pay attention to that, don’t pay attention to that. I honestly felt like it was the strangest experience ever and often when I speak about this people are like: ahh, it must have been magical! And I am like, yeah magical for my soul, but my ego was freaking out, it did not want to accept any of this. And then I just felt my energy being pulled to all the trees, everywhere I went. And it was three weeks of not really being able to process it; my husband found me in the bathroom on the tiled floors sitting next to a plant. He was like: are you alright mate? And I was like: not really. And he was like: what. And I am like: the plant is telling me to go to the forest. And he is like: right, okay.

And I was looking at this plant and I could see golden sparks of light just dripping off the plant onto my lap and it was the most bizarre experience and I confided in a friend and she is like: dude that’s the golden stream of light, don’t you know about that? And I was like: no, why has no one told me about this, what do you mean the golden stream of light? She was like: that’s the thing that connects you to the universal flow of everything. And I was like: oh my gosh, I wish I had told you that three weeks ago because I have been in internal hell trying to talk about this and not wanting to talk about it. So that was when I had my first experience and I battled with it, not wanting to accept it and it was just a turning point where I thought: I am all in, I am so, so, all in with this and I had about six months of being all in. And I was doing tree communication readings and all kinds of magical, wonderful, things and then there was a bit of a change that happened and I really stepped back from it.

Holly: Are you okay to talk about that?

Kerriann: Absolutely. It is a very entertaining story. What I used to do with tree readings – and this was actually a business coach said to me: ‘You can channel information from trees? You should do that for people!’ So I had this little feeling inside, like: mm, that’s not what you are supposed to do with this, this is not quite what you are supposed to be doing, but I did it anyway, because it was advised that this is something that you do. So I did it for maybe, I think it was close to seven people and on the seventh person I had a very unique experience.

So the way I used to do it was, I would get in my car, and I would go: okay, what tree is going to help this person? And then, in my mind a tree would show me where to drive and where the tree was. And I knew that was something in my mind, if that makes sense, because at that stage I wasn’t processing images, I knew it was very much channeled, it was something that was given to me. So I got in the car one day and asked ‘where is the tree?’, and it was like ‘a tree with a face’, and I was like, ‘oh my gosh, that tree has a face!’. So I start following the directions and it is a really long drive from my house and I am still driving and driving and it is really clear and it kind of felt like this tree had a lot of authority, it was really directing me and it kind of seemed a bit pissed off. And it was.

I got to this creek and I followed the instructions and there was a really nice little water, and rocks, and then there is a tree and as you look up the tree half way it has a face. And I am like, ‘okay this is the tree’. And as I approached the tree he was silence, usually the trees are happy and welcoming to have me there and this tree was like silent, but I could still feel like this tree was the one I needed to connect to. So I sat at the bottom of the tree with my art journal and started taking notes and this was tree was like, ‘we gave you this gift for a reason and this is not the reason to do this’. And I was like, ‘ah, what’s the reason?’. He was like, ‘we gave you this gift so that you could empower everyone with this gift’. And I was like, ‘oh my gosh, I am getting in trouble by a tree!’.

He went on to tell me that he was related to the fairies and the fairy realm of the area that I live in and that my whole purpose was not to channel for others but to empower others with the ability of channeling. And I thought, ‘ah, that is actually making so much sense’, because there was a niggle, there was something in me that was like, that’s not what I am here to do. I have had many conversations with trees since who are really happy to share their stories and that is how I found you Holly, which I will get into in a moment. This was like, it is hard to describe, but it was almost like I was taking this opportunity away from these people to be able to talk to a tree and have communication and so I just knew that I wasn’t to do that, and I was to teach others how to do it. And that was around the time that I started getting a bit like, ‘oh, this is a bit serious, too serious for playful me!’. And I went overseas to Iowa.

Holly: That’s a long journey.

Kerriann: It is a long journey and I just had this intuitive hit to talk with a lady and ask if she would like someone to come to her retreat, she was running a huge retreat. So I was supposed to do meditative art with the people there and I rung her a few months beforehand, I am like. ‘So, I am kind of talking to trees and I am teaching people how to communicate with trees, would you like me to bring that instead?’, and she was so excited. If you have ever been to Iowa, it was kind of remote the area I was in and everybody was a little bit like, ‘Who is this strange woman who talks to trees?’, ‘Who is this weirdo that is taking us all in the forest to talk to trees?’, and so it was next level and I thought there is no way that anyone is going to connect with them or anything like that.

What ended up happening was just remarkable, I had one girl who was such a beautiful soul and we were walking together and she just paused and she walked up a tree and she put her hand on it and she said, ‘it is talking to me’, and she was like, ‘it said something!’. And I said, ‘I know, that’s what happens!’, and then we did a little bit of an exercise and there were a few people who really resonated with it and a lot of people who were very apprehensive, and very standoffish, and felt like it was a bit of an insult on God, on their relationship with God. And I was so confused because the closet I feel to God, or any God, is when I am communicating with trees.

So I got back from that and I just started thinking that I was the biggest weirdo on the planet and then my mind let that story go on for quite some time and I was still kind of, I was running forest bathing clubs kind of thing and still dabbling a little bit, but not as much as my all in side of me was ready to go. Then we got to January of last year, it was December/January, and what happened was Australia literally burnt, there is no real way to describe it other than as absolute horror and I would go to bed at night, and I would lay down, and I could hear the screams of all the trees.

Holly: Oh God, yeah.

Kerriann: And trees were taking me, as soon as I closed my eyes Holly, a tree would take me, like pull me through the ground and move my consciousness and move me really fast and show me the fires; I could not handle it, I just was so emotional. I was weeping in the shower, thinking ‘I don’t know what to do, I feel so helpless’. I went to a really old tree, he is about 500 years old, he is a fig tree, his name is Joseph, it is actually two trees because there is a fig tree and then there is a fig strangler that is around the tree and they are both really old and really ancient and I asked him, ‘why is this happening?’, and he basically said it was like self-sacrifice, that they had to do it. And I just was like, ‘no, I will not accept that!’. I am not ready to process the reason for the destruction.

In hindsight, when I look back now, I go, so much clarity came from that in our country about what we are doing to our land and how we manage and care for our land, it makes a lot of sense to me now. And then I just shut off, I just said, ‘I am done, I am not doing this, I am not being part of this – and I am going back to accounting!’. {Holly: laughing}. ‘I am so done, I just cannot be in this world anymore’, and it was so funny, I literally went, ‘shut the doors, I am literally not even going to talk about trees and I am going to start bookkeeping again, teaching financial management and doing accounting stuff and be super normal and in my normal box, because that is where everybody really wants me to be, in that box’. Yeah, I shut off for, I think it was close to eight months, and it was during Covid that I was driving my car and I don’t know if you have ever watched the movie, The Greatest Showman.

Holly: No, I don’t think… no.

Kerriann: Ah Holly you have to watch it, it is so, so, beautiful and it has songs in there about being who you truly are, like really embracing who you are, and the whole movie is just spectacular but the movie is beautiful; and it really has light codes built into it, like it does something to it when you listen and when you watch the movie as well.

And so I was driving and said, ‘I am ready, I am so ready to be part of that world and who I really am’. Around the same time I met a really beautiful lady who is actually a light code teacher, a light language teacher, and she is a client of mine for financial management and we joke and say now, ‘it is actually because you were here to make me believe that I could work with trees as a full time thing’. So we are always laughing because she came to me for financial management but really she ended up helping me with my journey. Yeah I kind of got my confidence around that.

And then I went to, I think it was in August, I went into a group coaching session and I started feeling unwell and dizzy and I was like, ‘something is not right, something is not right’, and inside, I knew, you can’t keep this up, you can’t keep up this idea that you are an accountant, you have to let it go. And I didn’t, I just denied that intuitive hit, really, really, really, denied it and then a week later I broke out in rashes from head to toe, I got a lump on my thyroid, my blood pressure was spiking and dropping and they were like, ‘whatever you are doing…’

Holly: Stop it!

Kerriann: Get rid of as much as you possibly can and I thought to myself, ‘this is it, this is your moment where you can really honour, you are not listening to spirit and now your body is physically getting involved to make you listen so it is time to listen’. So I told all my clients, ‘I am packing up, I am not going into financial management, it is over, it is done’, and I really transitioned from there into a healing phase, I worked a lot with angels, unicorn energy, dragon energy, whatever was available or coming to me, I was just allowing it to happen.

And then I really went, ‘I am just going to talk to Jamilah, who is my favourite tree, and ask her what she wants me to do, what she wants from me, how can I serve her?’ So I asked her and she said, ‘we want you to share the magic of trees’. And then we had this really beautiful conversation about that and what that looked like and then I said, ‘okay I am going to do that’, and I kid you not Holly, it was insane because there was no wind anywhere and Jamilah started shaking her leaves, all of her leaves started shaking and I was like: oh my god, I am so happy.

I look across the road and there is like a whole reserve, a nature reserve, and all of the trees up the street just start shaking it was like they were clapping, they were so excited about the whole moment of me really stepping in and I was like: okay, but I am going to need some help, I am still not fully confident yet, so I am going to need you to help me with this process’. Just so many people have come into my life who are tree communicators, or linked to tree communication, or nature reciprocity, the area that I love. Everyone is playing a part in me becoming more confident and that is actually how I found you as well, Holly.

Holly: Yes. So would you like to tell that story, because I love that story! {laughing}

Kerriann: It’s the best, I always tell it. Holly, I forget that not everyone is fully open and I have conversations and I am telling the story and they just look at me like, ‘oh, right!’, and I am like, ‘yes, that’s my life now!’, just one, big, flow-y, magical, abundant, world of goodness! It was really funny because I was walking my dog and there were these little trees that they have plastic around, because they are trying to grow them and I heard little niggle, like ‘Holly, trees’, and I was like, ‘holly tree, ah it is Christmas and…’, like I was thinking of the holly tree. And then I heard this really clear guide say to me, ‘go to audible, type in ‘Holly’ and ‘tree’, and I was like, ‘ok’.

So I do and I click on your book and I am like: what is this? I pressed play and I am like, ‘what’s happening? This is my story.’, and for two years I have had this story in my mind about conversations with trees, where I go up the trees and have a conversation and write them in a book so that people get more comfortable with talking to trees. So I am listening to your book and going, ‘this lady has written my book, this is the book’, and I was tripping out going, ‘what is going on?, this is the next level’. The funniest thing was I remember reading years ago, I think it was Elizabeth Gilbert writes about how there are ideas of books that just float around and they can drop into…

Holly: Yes!

Kerriann: And I am like, ‘oh my gosh I’m having this moment with this lady, I have to contact her, what do I say to her?’, and I am like, ‘just tell her the truth, even if it sounds weird, just say: hi some little sapling trees called out your name and told me to look you up and you have written my story and it is great’. Yeah it was so bizarre but not at all bizarre because I have come to accept that there is something so much bigger than I think I even have the ability to comprehend happening and the trees communicators that come into my life always in a very peculiar way and I am always so excited and yours was definitely one of the most peculiar ones but I have had other tree communicators come into my life in very bizarre ways as well. So yeah, it is really interesting how I found you, I figured that I don’t even have to try anymore with life, just get to follow the trees and what they tell me to do and that makes everything really easy for me and enjoyable and fun and playful.

Holly: I love that, I love that the trees are helping me with my marketing! {laughing}

Kerriann: {laughing} I know it is so cool! And they are just connection us. I have to tell you a story about Ben, so when I went to Iowa last year I had not been away from my family, I hadn’t had a night away forever and I went to the other side of the world. I am on this plane and it was from LA to Boston and it is a smallish plane, and I sit down next to an empty seat, and I am so excited that it is an empty seat, and I see this clunky kind of man coming up the aisle and I am like, ‘he is going to sit next to me, he is going to sit next to me’. There was nothing to be worried about but there was something about him that I was, ‘there is just something here’, and he sits next to me and smells Kerosine, like petrol fuel. And I am like, ‘oh my gosh he is going to burn the plane down, I am not going to make it there, this is like me finally doing my thing and I am not even going to get there’.

And I am sitting next to this guy and he is wearing worker clothes and smells like petrol and I am just like, ‘this is not good, this is not good’. And he looks at me and he has got a really kind face and he smiles and I am like, ‘ah he’s all right, but he still smells like he might burn the plane down’. I pulled out, I was like, I don’t want to get in a conversation so I am going to pull out a book, I pulled out a book [about] Shinrin-Yoku and started reading it. And he goes: ‘ah, you like trees?’, and I was like, ‘I love trees actually’, and we started talking and he smelt like petrol and kerosene because he does control burning for the big trees in the States and that is why he smelt, because he was jumping on the plane from work to go and meet his wife, she works for the UN and she was meeting him.

And we get into this beautiful conversation about tress, and he kind of looks at me in this really cute way, something sparked in him and all of a sudden he felt like he could trust me. I must say, he was about 70, so he was an oldish man. And, he just says to me, I don’t know why, because I have never told anyone this in my life, but I feel like I can trust you, sometimes when I am with trees they speak to me. And I grabbed his arm and I am like, ‘Ben! I am a tree communicator!, I just don’t always tell people’.

And so we were like two kids in the back of the plane, just so excited to have found each other and we had the most incredible conversations about his relationship with trees and my journey with trees. He is such a beautiful man and I actually got his email and have written to him since I have returned back to Australia, just an absolutely beautiful, beautiful man, and an incredible moment. To have people open up about it is such a beautiful thing to experience and I think that’s what I love the most about meeting other tree communicators that haven’t yet shared it. I think Holly, not many people do talk about it, but there are a lot of people out there experiencing it, so I think that is why this conversation is so, so, important, so other people feel confident enough to talk about it.

Holly: Yes, I am shocked, since I wrote the book, it came almost two years ago, how many people have emailed me and said: thank you for talking about this, because I do it and I thought I was the only one, or I thought it was this weird thing that I did. I emailed you last week, I went up North to be on television, just normal Channel 4 national television here in the UK and one of the TV presenters, Miquita Oliver said, ‘my reiki teacher told me to talk to trees, so I have been communicating with trees, so I am really excited to read your book, can you give me a copy?’. And I was like, ‘yeah!’. {laughing}

Kerriann: Oh man, I feel like it is just an awakening that is just happening everywhere.

Holly: Yeah.

Kerriann: Do you feel like it is part of your mission to make sure that it is normalised?

Holly: I love that you said that, I don’t know whether you said that in your measure to me, or I saw it on your website, or what, but I feel like it is a very concise way of saying something that I haven’t stepped into. Like you would think with the book, and with the response that I received from the book, you would think that I would have arrived at that place already. I understand the importance of talking about this so that it is normalised but it is like I haven’t really stepped into that mission yet. You know I have so problems going on television to talk about it, but it’s not something that I am shouting to the world. I don’t lead with that when I meet new people and I still haven’t fully stepped into this, you know? It’s weird.

Kerriann: I understand, I have so much residual energy left over when I stepped away from it because of the fear of it being weird, or being labelled weird. I was always the weird kid, because I could see ghosts and talk to spirits, so I was always, always, weird. That whole idea is what led me to ‘oh well I want to make it normal, because then I won’t be weird’, if we normalise this then I can’t be the only one surely! {laughing} So it has definitely been born out of wanting to create some kind of community around this that isn’t secretive, that is not deemed godly like, because it is god, that’s what the experience really is, being so present that the frequencies of the creator is felt in every moment and I think that the more people like you and myself say, ‘yeah, we are just normalising it’.

I think we are way ahead of our time to be honest, I think in the next ten years it really, truly, will be normalised. I had a moment with the tree where the tree showed me an alternative to how we live now, the homes that it showed me and the way that we lived together was just fascinating to me. It just seems like there is such an opportunity to learn from trees about having more nature reciprocity and nature reciprocity (nature and reciprocity together) kept coming up in my mind so much and I couldn’t quite work out what it, or the idea about it. And so I went to a farm with my daughter, and it is a fruit tree farm and they take you on a tour and I am left with the tour guide and my daughter and the tour guide is standing next to a tree and he is kind of talking about the tree; and he kind of looks at me and I look at him and I get the same look that I got from Ben like: we both know that there is a lot more going on here than what we are actually talking about!

He just says to me, he actually said it to my daughter and not to me, he said: if you put your hands on this tree sometimes the tree will show you pictures and sometimes the tree will give you a feeling and even some words might come to you and I looked at him and said, ‘I am a tree communicator, I know exactly what you are talking about’.  He was like, ‘a tree communicator!’, and he starts telling me about how the owner of the property is a tree communicator, he is a tree communicator, yeah and these trees weren’t producing nuts and the owner yelled at them, and he said, ‘I am going to chop you down unless you start producing nuts’, because it had been twenty years that these trees were not producing any nuts. And he said it in a frustrated, kind of jokey, very Australian, you know, Aussie…

Holly: Ok good, good, because at first I was like: that’s not the attitude to have!

Kerriann: But the next, I think it was within a week they started making nuts and I was like: this is such a funny conversation and then we continued the tour and he left, and then at the end of the tour he chases me down on the street and he is like: hey, and waving his hand, and he has got a book and he is like ’you need to read this book’, and I am like, ‘okay’, and he is like, no, I am getting a real clear ‘you have to read this book’, and it is called Braiding Sweet Grass, and I start reading this book and the first thing I see the words ‘nature reciprocity’ and it explains the whole concept of what that means and what it really means to be in a give and take with nature.

And I was like, wait a second, this is the problem, this is the problem we have, once upon a time we walked around communicating with trees, communicating with the land, and we only took what we needed, sufficiency was just a normal part of life, we weren’t driven by the ego to consume and consume and consume and so there was this beautiful relationship and then the ego got more powerful, and more powerful, and kind of took over the whole process and we lost the whole process and the patriarch moved into different areas around the world and really squashed that out of all of the ancient cultures. So coming back to that nature reciprocity is what I think the whole point of the tree communication is and nature connection and it is way more than the individual, what can I get from this experience? It is more about what can I learn, how can I commune so we can understand each other better and start seeing trees as beings of light, just like we are?

Holly: Yeah, I have received very clear messages when I was putting the book together that the trees wanted to help people reconnect to nature so that they could have more respect for nature.

Kerriann: Yes, I believe that’s the whole, whole, point of it all and I believer if we can move into that area and really let ourselves connect with nature, yeah we can get spiritual guidance and access a really deep friendship between ourselves and nature but we can make this world a much better place than what we are currently leaving it and I really, truly, believe that something needs to be done now and that is why the veils are being lifted and the communication is really clear because we are at that crucial time and something needs to happen now. So I believe that is why more and more and more people are experiencing tree communication because it is essential to a way forward.

Holly: And as you said the more you talk about it the more they will release that it is a possibility and they might give it a try, even though it hasn’t happened spontaneously to them.

Kerriann: They are all secretly trying it Holly, there is no doubt about it, anybody that hears me talk about tree communication is definitely trying it, because people who really reject the idea, all of them have all come back to me and have had some kind of experience and I always say, don’t you remember that tree you had a relationship with when you were a child? And instantly everyone can. I haven’t met a person who doesn’t have a tree and I think just one tree in your entire life and you felt something, there was some magic happening there even though you didn’t feel it, your conscious mind wasn’t able to process it, but that was a tree communicating with you through emotions and feelings. So I always bring that up with people because everyone had got a tree.

Holly: Yeah everyone has got a tree from childhood.

Kerriann: ‘I had a tree’ and then ‘actually I have got another tree’, and so I think people who are sceptical about it all end up having some kind of experience of their own, because they always come back to me with, ‘so I was walking in the park the other day and I felt this and I saw this’, I just love it and I think we don’t even really need to try, we just need to voice it before people start experiencing it. I don’t know if you have ever heard, I can’t remember what community it was but basically they see hundreds of shades of green and have language?

Holly: Yes, yes.

Kerriann: But they don’t have language for the colour blue and so they don’t see the colour blue. It is kind of the same, if you don’t even know it is a thing then you can’t even experience it, you can’t even see it, there is no way to be able to take that in because it is not even a possibility in your mind. So I feel like if people just hear about it then the curiosity is sparked and that is enough for nature to have a window, to have an ‘in’ with that person.

Holly: So how do you communicate with trees? I hear a very clear voice in my head, in the same way that I channel other types of spirits. I do know that some people get images, which you have said you don’t, how do you get their messages?

Kerriann: I definitely get images from trees, I don’t usually get images in my mind, but I have been working on my Chakra system to awaken that and I do get flashes of images now which is really cool, I have done since last year and trees would show me routes of where they were, kind of thing, through images. Mainly what I get is feelings. So definitely a physical feeling in my body and then – this is kind of how my mind is experiencing it but my mind doesn’t even know, it is just coming up with a theory. I think that I feel and then my mind interprets a conscious stream of information and then I hear the voices and they have personalities, different sounds, some are female and some are male.

I know you talked about that in your book too, which I found really fascinating because I haven’t been able to tell the difference between male and female trees, I am not like into forestry and learning about trees and I have just signed up to be a horticultural student to learn more because I am so fascinated by the unknown of this work that I am doing. I definitely have, the mother tree Jamilah, she is down the road, and she is a fig tree and she communicates with me, it is very clear – audible – and she shows me pictures of the children that have played underneath her when she is happy and it is really so beautiful. She helps me really be a better mum, because I wouldn’t say I am not a natural mum, everyone is a natural mum I guess, but I was never planning to have kids, I was like, ‘I am not going to have to kids’, so it didn’t fall really easily for me and she has really helped me with conscious parenting and how to really let my children be an individual soul and not really control and that has her biggest influence on me.

But some trees take me into their root systems and show me when there is something wrong with them. I have had like a mix of everything, at first it was colours Holly, I was getting colours and I could taste the colours, and I was like ‘what do you mean it tastes like sparkly orange?’, and I was like, ‘I don’t know how to explain this, that’s all I am getting’. So what I was doing was meeting a tree and then asking if it was okay for me to communicate with it and then I would (this is when I first started) imagine that there was an energy within my hands and I would place those close to the tree and the tree had its own aura and I could connect that way, that was when I first started out until I had my golden stream of light experience and then after that it was like an open dialogue. And it is not just trees, it’s the ocean as well, so the ocean pulls my stream of consciousness down to the belly of the ocean and shows me things and gives me messages and that is a really beautiful experience too. But definitely more trees than the ocean; but I feel like it is everything, Holly, all things, they are all just waiting.

There is a little park not far from where I live and I just heard a voice, ‘get off the bike and sit on the swing’, and I am like, ‘okay, the children’s swing, I love being a kid I will do that’. I pulled my bike over and thought, ‘I am going to turn my back from the street, I don’t want any of the street mums to see me swing!’. I was siting on the swing and in front of me there was a big tree and it kind of goes into forest and I was swinging and all of a sudden it was like switching a light on, it was like switching a light on and I could see fairies and goblins and all of these creatures in the forest and I was like, ‘what is happening? This is so wild’, and I just kept swinging and the tree was like, ‘just relax, relax, just relax’, and there was a tiny little goblin behind the tree and he would peak out at me and then duck behind the tree again and I was like, ‘woah this is the most magical experience that I have ever had’. I believe that happens because I have spent so much time now accepting that is all very normal but then as quick as it came on it was like switching the light off again and just seeing green, just seeing what you normally see. I feel like it was a window, a glimpse, into what’s really there. I am like ‘wow we don’t see anything’.

Holly: No and I think that it is so interesting that you said that because when I was working on the tree book, when I was, at night, collecting alone in the garden, collecting the stories from the Chalice Well yews, I kept feeling a tap on my shoulder and when I had finished channelling the trees, I got this very clear message that one of my next books is going to be the elementals, the fairies and all of that. It is not time yet, I know I am not ready for it, but I can’t wait for that.

Kerriann: I am so excited for you to write that book. I think that it is incredible the way that you are able to step into to writing the books. It is kind of like one of those things where you know it is going to be the book that everyone hunts down in ten years time when everyone realises how magical it is to be in unison with trees and with the elementals. Your books are going to help so many people and I am so excited for you to write that. Do you feel like you have a history with the fairies? What is your connection to them?

Holly: That’s the thing, I don’t have much of a connection with them, I have a longing to connect with them, I talk to them when I am out in the woods, I feel that there are things there that I can’t see, I keep asking them to show themselves, but I feel like for some reason that it is not time yet. I definitely know they are out there but for now my relationship has been more with the trees and plants than it has been with that realm.

Kerriann: I think that the trees and the plants, they are the gateway to the next realm. And I think you really have to be, not really open, but it is a different kind of energy, it is more like a receptive energy, you are ready to receive that amount, because that amount it’s a lot and I always think back to, I have done past life regressions back to past lives and I always have this feeling that I just have a very strong connection to fairies and elementals but I still, I am a little bit exploring it and learning about it, I wouldn’t say that I am expert in any way, but I definitely know that there is a deep connection there. I wonder if, now that we have had this conversation, if you will start to have more of those visual experiences because your visual, aren’t you?

Holly: I am very visual, which surprises me that I get the messages, I am not an auditory person at all but yet the trees I hear a very clear voice, I channel it verbally and I record it on my phone. That’s how I get their messages, I am surprised I don’t get visual messages because I am such a visual person, I think that is why I have such a longing to see the elementals.

Kerriann: Yes, yes. It is interesting, I think there are different ways that they show things to us and we just have to accept what those are and I think, for me, the reasons why I see those images is that because I am not gifted with that ability. If someone says, ‘can you see a ball in your mind?’, I am like ‘no’. Holly, five years ago, I was in my corporate job in finance and someone made a comment about Aphantasia on Facebook post I saw on my lunch break and I am like, ‘what?, hang on is it not an expression when people say they can ‘see it in their mind’’, I was so confused, I went around to everyone in my office and I am like, ‘hang on, when I tell you to picture a ball in your mind, what happens?’ And they were like, ‘well you see a ball, it is red or…’ and I am like, ‘what do you mean?, what is happening? How is that possible?’, and everyone is so confused that I can’t see pictures. So I think that is why I am allowed to see it with the trees because it helped me believe.

Holly: Yes, yes.

Kerriann: It was really happening and it is probably similar to you with hearing them, because you don’t usually hear, so it is a little bit more believable when you have a very loud voice in your head coming from a tree, it is really easy for you to go, ‘well, that’s definitely not my imagination because that’s not how I imagine things’.

Holly: Yes.

Kerriann: And I, that’s my theory on it anyway.

Holly: I agree.

Kerriann: Can I ask you, do you hear different languages?

Holly: No I hear different accents and different voices, but I only speak two languages: English and Spanish, so I haven’t heard any other languages, have you?

Kerriann: Yes and I don’t know what it is saying. I went to a tree, it is part of Joseph, Joseph is a big tree and there is the fig strangler I mentioned before and one of them is giving me a lot of information in a language that I don’t understand and I wrote it all down and when I looked it up it was Gaelic or Scottish, some of the bits of it, but it didn’t translate and I couldn’t make sense of it. My heritage is Scottish so I was like, ‘oh maybe there is something going on here where some kind of ancient communication is happening from my lineage’, but I still haven’t really worked it out yet. I can’t go to that tree, Holly, if I got to that tree … and I want to thank you too, because when I first started listening to your book, you mentioned in that book that not all the stories are nice and not all the stories are happy fairytales.

Okay, so when I first was like, ‘I am going to draw trees and get their messages’, I went to Joseph (and I had only been there twice before) and I never really noticed the heaviness of the tree. I noticed that it felt sad but not the deep heaviness that that tree holds and when I went to draw, I said, ‘can I draw you?’, and he said, ‘only if you draw me seeped in my sorrows and how I really am’. And I was so like, ‘oh my gosh’, and he is so, so, sad about what happened to the land here. Where I live is in suburbia and it is basically, he is the only ancient tree in our area that has been left and there are lots of trees, but not any ancient trees, so he is very, very, very, upset that everyone he loves is gone and the clearing, it is a clearing with boxes of houses basically like really typical suburbia developments you know? And he is really, really, really, sad and if you get too close to him his energy is so strong that it takes three days, three days, to get it out of my system and the first time I connected with him I literally threw up, it was so full on. So I don’t often! I don’t often visit, I give a wave from a distance on my bike, ‘hi!, I’ll catch up soon’. {Both: laughing}

Holly: Poor guy! Finally I find the women that can talk to me and now she is avoiding me! {laughing}

Kerriann: I will send you a photo, he is very spectacular but I don’t get a lot of the details about what happened and the Scottish accent and all of that, I have never explored that, because it is just really intense when I spend too much time with that tree.

Holly: I think that’s interesting, I don’t know if you remember from my book the Four Knights, which are near Avebury, they mention that we are capable of bringing all the things that we have learned from our previous lifetimes into our current lifetime, so I wonder if the trees are talking to you in Gaelic because they know your lineage and they know that if you activate that knowledge you can understand them or bring it forward.

Kerriann: Yes, yes. So, so, so true and I think I was listening to one of your podcasts recently and someone mentioned about visiting places, and where would you like to visit and what trails do you want to do? In my mind I am longing for Scotland, I am just longing for it and I cannot wait for all these travel restrictions to be over so that I can leave Australia, so that I can go to Scotland. And I know that there are trees waiting for me there because they call to me, I can hear their calls, ‘when are you coming, come to us’, and I don’t even know where they are and I kind of looked a couple of times on the maps, ‘show me where you are’.

I know it will come to me, but I just can’t wait I feel like when I put my feet on the ground there the welcome is going to be spectacular and I am so excited for it. I got a welcome, actually in the States, when I got there, when I stepped on the ground, as soon as I stepped on the ground I felt all of my energy pulling to the earth there and shoot me off to all these different trees and I could just see so many trees in my mind and they were all really happy that I was there and I just had the best experience there. So I think I will have the same thing happening in Scotland and I think I will definitely be coming to visit you.

Holly: Yes! And we will go walking out to trees together!

Kerriann: What do you think will happen? In my head I feel like the world is going to explode when we are in the same energy and space and.. everything is going to sparkle and be magical, I think it will just be a really happy moment for the trees, but also for us too.

Holly: Yes, all around! {laughing} I know what you mean about feeling a strong connection to land because before my husband and I moved to the UK, I had never been here, we just decided to move here randomly and the second I moved here, the second I got off the plane, it was like, ‘this is where I belong’. And I have never had that sense of belonging anywhere else and now I know why, it is because of the nature here, because I feel so connected to the trees and the land and I feel so safe to go out wandering for hours alone in the woods, which I haven’t felt in other parts of the world.

Kerriann: I don’t know how you do that, every time I am so jealous. I am like, ‘oh she just goes out on her own all the time for hours! I want to do that!’, I keep freaking out if I go out on my own for too long that I am going to get bitten by a brown snake and no one will find me, Australia is intense.

Holly: You have some scary things there.

Kerriann: You can’t wander for a half day, a good hour maybe, but after that it is like: okay, I need to go back to where there are other humans and I think that is really amazing that you can do that and when I think about you in the forest there I think, ‘wow it must be so different to here’, where it is very tropical and then it is extremely dry, the conditions are just insane and the kinds of plants and trees that grew here are quite peculiar because of those conditions so I am really excited to see the trees in your region and what they are like. I think they are more like the trees, so I have been obsessed with The Faraway Tree for as long as I can remember and I feel like they are going to be the trees from Enid Blyton’s books in my mind, they are going to be just like those trees! If we climb to the top we will enter a new dimension! Have you read The Faraway Tree?

Holly: No I haven’t, you are the second person who has recommend that book to me so I am going to have to get it.

Kerriann: It is time, it is time for you read The Faraway Tree, it is a beautiful, playful story about a group of siblings and a cousin who go into the enchanted woods and they climb up a tree and as they climb up the tree there are different characters. So there is Silky who is a fairy and different characters and when they get to the very top of the tree there are different land, so when they get to the top there is a new land. And so the topsy turvy land, and all these different lands, and it is this journey of these children exploring the magic of this big, beautiful, tree and the way that the trees are described I imagine, they are very similar to all the other places other than Australia, because we just have a lot of Eucalyptus trees.

Holly: Oh but they smell so good.

Kerriann: And they are very, very, special. They have such an incredible, wonderful, feeling to them and I definitely want to explore more communicating with eucalyptus trees because they are more standoffish than the fig trees.

Holly: Oh interesting!

Kerriann: And more standoffish, a lot like the She Oak trees are everywhere where I live, because we are in a coastal area, and they want to communicate all the time, they are always wanting to chat to me, whereas the eucalyptus are really standoffish and they take a lot of time to become friends with them, before they share with you and so I want to spend a lot more time this year actually connecting to them. And you have to wait until Autumn and Winter to be able to do that, because it is so hot here, to sit with a tree for as long as I would like to, I am like burning up. It is really hot.

Holly: You won’t have that problem in England, I will tell you that much! {laughing}

Kerriann: I love the cold, I am always trying to convince my family that we need to move somewhere really cold but it is not going to happen, it is just a pipeline dream for me.

Holly: {laughing} So I am aware of time and I am aware that it is very late where you are but I could continue talking to you all day long. So maybe we should revisit this and do a second episode at some point? Thank you so much for having this conversation with you I am really excited to share this with the world so that we can normalise tree communication and make it something that normal people do — and not just weird people like us!

Kerriann: Exactly, let’s make everyone else as weird as us and then everyone else is normal and we can just recategorise that.

Holly: It is a new normal.

Kerriann: 100% yes. And I just want to thank you for everything that you are doing, for having me on here, but also just the work, the bravery that comes with it, I know it so well and I really admire you and look up to you and I just think that your journey has given me a path of confidence and I want to thank you so much for that.

Holly: Good, good, good, yay! Well I will be sharing all the links about your website and everything in the show notes but in the meantime before we sign off can you tell people where to find you online?

Kerriann: You can find me at: themagicoftrees.com there is also Facebook and you can find me there @themagicoftrees and also Instagram, I think it is @themagicoftrees.kerriann, because Instagram wouldn’t let me change it to just the magic of trees and neither would Facebook. Yeah, it is interesting I tried many times, but it was not happening, but if you type in ‘the magic of trees’ on Instagram you will find me there, I spend most of my time there but I also have some presence on Facebook as well.

Holly: All right, well thank you so much for joining us today.

Kerriann: Thank you for having me Holly.

Holly: Thank you for listening, please drop me a line and let me know what you thought of this week’s episode, you can email me at [email protected] or find me online and get in touch there.

Thank you so much for listening. If you have any questions about tree communication or any other aspects of tree commutation that you want to learn about please let me know. I am currently working on a book about how to talk to trees and this is another channeled book like If Trees Could Talk. I am collecting questions from people and taking those questions to the trees and asking ‘How should people deal with this?’ ‘How should people deal with that?’ and it will be a book, so I welcome your questions.

Thank you for listening and remember to visit: HollyWorton.com/392 for the show notes on this episode. Thank you.
